It’s official! Summer 2012 has arrived at last. After an extended winter, the time has (finally) come to pack away the woollies and to swop the beanies for baseball caps and trade the scarves for sarongs.
The Diaz Summer Sun Festival in association with 8ta’s Live unlimited this Summer tour at Diaz Strand is gearing up for a bumper summer of fun, festival and top-notch entertainment from 15 – 31 December 2012. Apart from the beaches being packed by sundrenched bodies, the schedule of activities and amusement is absolutely jam-packed with crowd favourites and exciting new twists.
The 2012 Summer Sun Festival at Diaz Beach in Mossel Bay will kick off in spectacular fashion with the launch of Bossaball on South African and African soil for the first time on December 16th & 17th.
Expect to be blown away by this exciting new sport taking the world by storm. Invented in Spain, this concept combines volleyball, soccer and trampoline gymnastics as each side tries to bounce high enough to be able to spike the ball and ground it on the opposition’s side.This new sport will be introduced by international Pro players entertaining the crowds and running clinics on how to play this new game. Accompanied by MC’s, DJ’s and Dancers, adrenalized fun is guaranteed!
The Convenience Market will be transformed into a month-long Festive Season Market with everything you need, wish or desire under the tree come the 25’th. The Water World will be up and running, guaranteed to give any holiday an adrenaline injection. Once again, the outside stage will be the entertainment hub for one and all with competitions, giveaways, and of course the feet tapping hands in the air rocking entertainment from the beach band, Life is a Highway sponsored by Firestone All Road Hazard Guarantee.
One of the biggest crowd pleasers every year is undoubtedly the beauty competitions of which there are many to choose from. With great prizes and incredible opportunities for the winners, they are definitely worth entering. Miss Billabong Bikini by Outerpool Surf kicks off the festivities on 17 December, followed by Mr & Miss Sand Pebble on 19 December. The coveted Miss Diaz Rip Curl by Outerpool Surf competition’s semi finals will take place on 23 December after which the final gala evening will take place on 26 December in the Pero Diaz Theatre. Mr & Miss Junior Diaz will take place on 27 December whilst the ladies can come and see Mr Diaz Hunk on 28 December. Then the guys are in for a treat with Miss Teen by Outerpool Surf on 30 December and Miss Roxy Bikini by Outerpool Surf on 31 December.
On 18 and 22 December, Diaz will be looking for their own beach idol with the Summer Sun Star competition, presented by Kwela presenter Claude Pretorius. For the more adventurous reality TV junkies, Diaz will be hosting their annual Amazing Race once again on 29 December where participants are tasked to team up with their BFF’s to unravel intricate clues, participate in zany tasks and ultimately outwit and outthink their competition in order to come out on top and win the big prize.
For those holidaymakers who need a culture infusion, the Summer Music Festival, stacked with some of South Africa’s best artists, is sure to provide the necessary boost.
